So I took one of those SAT things today, and one thing I found very encouraging during the test was the people next to me. Why? Because one in particular kept muttering to himself throughout the morning.

My favorite line?

Oh sh!t, I hate these.

It’s always so nice to know that somebody else is worse off than you are.

Religion and why I hate it.

I hate religion. Religion is why thousands died on September 11th. Religion is what started countless wars. Religion causes pain, suffering, and is usually pure bullshit.

Christianity, at its core, isn’t about that. Many Christians try to make it that, but they’re missing the point. It isn’t about how many free car washes you can do. It isn’t about tithing. It isn’t about baptism. It isn’t about being a missionary. It isn’t about getting people saved.

It’s about a relationship.

I don’t want to be dedicated to a religion. Religion imprisons.

Jesus, however, is a different question entirely.

If people could only get that. If people could only live by that. They may not be as dedicated to their religion as others–but they’ll be more dedicated to their God than anyone else will ever be able to claim.

And isn’t that the point?

Oh, the irony.

Blogging is, in itself, a paradox. New blogs usually arise out of fun, the want to publish thoughts in a (sometimes) orderly manner. But as the blog grows and an audience made, pressure grows. Somewhere along the line, it ceases to become about you. No, let me take that back. It becomes more about you, but less about what you first wanted. It’s not about you sharing your thoughts with the world, no…It’s building that readership. Checking the stats. Spamming.

Scratch that last one.

In a sense, you get what you want and have an audience to share your thoughts with.

But are they the thoughts you wanted to share?

As Randy K. Milholland (don’t ask me who he is, I really don’t know–he’s just got sweet quotes) once said:

It hurts to find out that what you wanted doesn’t match what you dreamed it would be.

And that, my not-so-dear readers, is what big time blogging is all about.

Yeah, I decided to start a new blog.

Why?

I try to keep elliotswan.com fairly focused on web, design, and development issues–so I had nowhere to post my American Idol predictions. Or anything else for that matter.

So here I am, with a fresh WordPress installation and a new blog, Accidental Procrastination. If I ever feel like it, I’ll probably build a sweet theme for this thing.

But for now…It’s new, it’s messy, and it’s pretty freakin’ fun.
