On eating more than you should.
May 7, 2006There comes many a time where there’s just way too much good food to eat. However, being a responsible consumer, we must of course eat it all. A challenge lies in this, a contest between you and the food.
Who will win? What will it take?
I find that following these few basic guidelines greatly increases one’s chances of winning this ever-so-great a battle.
- Eat slowly. I’m talking extremely slowly. Like, one bite at a time.
- Take breaks. Often. This goes along the lines of eating slowly. Take a bite, then take a break for a few minutes. This gives you time to pluck up the courage to take that next bite.
- Vary your food intake. While not always possible, this is a wonderful little tip for things like potlucks. People tend to over-indulge on the sweets, then feel too sick to continue. See tip 2 then try a new type of food. Something like fruit, or maybe just get some water. After a while, you’ll be ready to rumble once again.
- Do something physical. Be careful with this one, you don’t want to do something like jumping up and down–extreme discomfort is sure to follow. But definitely walk around, swing your arms around, etc.
- And lastly, be prepared to not do much for the rest of the day. Because after you eat all that, there’s no way you’re going to be able to move.
